Workshop outline
Experiment with words and writing in this inspiring workshop for Primary students. The workshop aims to increase confidence in using language playfully and creatively.
Workshop leaders begin by asking the question ‘what is creative writing?’ and introduce participants to some of the different forms creative writing can take, such as poems, novels, short stories and plays. Participants will learn about nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs and use an activity sheet to collect words inspired by the fascinating printed books, letters, diaries and manuscripts on display in the Treasures gallery. Students will then use an experimental technique, often employed by writers, to generate an imaginative piece of writing. Using a range of art materials, participants will turn their written ideas into hand printed text. Following this, each of the students’ work will be joined together to create a collaborative story.
