Work Placements

Collection Care offers short-term work placements for students.

Please note that we can not accommodate anymore work placements in 2012. Requests will now only be considered for 2013 onwards.

The British Library offers short-term work placements for students who have completed a course in book and/or paper conservation, or for those who require work experience as part of their conservation degree. Our work placements provide opportunities for early-career conservators who wish to gain further practical experience:

We can accommodate a maximum of 4 placements each year, however this will vary depending on the current level of resources available and the type of work being carried out in the studios.

Our work placements are organised in this way to ensure that we have the correct material in the studios and to ensure that we have the staff and resources to support students.

The work that individuals undertake will be determined by the conservation programme at the time of their work placement. Individuals applying for placements will be expected to have a good knowledge of conservation methods and materials, and good practical skills.

Before applying for one of our work placements please read the selection criteria.

If you meet all the criteria please contact Laura Carpenter giving brief details of your skills and experience and when you would be looking to undertake a work placement.
